Clothes are a means of non-verbal communication as much as gestures or facial expressions. They can be indicative of one’s attitudes, gender and social status. One can use clothes to create one’s own image. Without the context of the person who has been wearing them, individual pieces of clothing become no more than an abstract symbol, a disguise full of culturally coded meanings.

Clothes without the person wearing them become a symbol of deadness and abandonment. Folds, wrinkles and bulges carry remnants of information but fail to bring us closer to the owner. Clothes – just as many other things – only make sense when functioning within a ‘relationship’.
